Overview

The School of Geography Laboratories support one of the largest research-oriented university geography departments in the United Kingdom. In addition, the laboratories conduct bespoke analyses for governmental, commercial and charity organisations. We divide our equipment and expertise into two broad areas: laboratory analysis, including water, soil and chemical analysis, and field recording, including water flow and quality monitoring, meteorology, surveying, coring, and geophysics.

Our laboratories have the lastest in research equipment, backed up by staff with commercial expertise in its use. For students there is the possibility of conducting research during their time at Leeds with professional lab equipment. For those wanting to contract the labs to complete independent analyses, we offer facilities that run under a comprehensive in-house quality management regime.

Equipment lists are provided below and include the very latest solar and battery powered data loggers, soil, air and river water quality monitors, lake/reservoir water level recorders, ground water table recorders, water velocity probes, and topographic survey equipment.
