School of Geography

Networking with schools and colleges

We actively engage with local and national geography teachers, have staff dedicated to strengthening links with schools and colleges, and in 2008 set up a new branch of the Leeds Geographical Association which is going from strength to strength.

We also work closely with the Royal Geographical Society, sending student ambassadors into schools, providing lecturers to give talks in schools, and supporting RGS initiatives to increase the profile and uptake of geography as a school subject.

Schools outreach

We offer a variety of tours and activities to schools and individual visitors. These range from sixth form talks to fun workshops to engage primary school pupils with the areas of science that we study.

Where possible we accommodate requests for visits, talks and workshops from individual schools. We are particularly interested in supporting schools who wish to develop our subjects within the curriculum, or who have large cohorts of students from the first generation of their family to consider higher education.
