Using ArcView the built-up areas containing extra large town centres were selected and coded with a value, these are displayed as black areas in the map above.Source=Bartholomew data
Comments
This layer should help the neural networks distinguish the areas which have a high population density which also have quite a large distance from small or medium sized towns, and those areas which have a low population density and are quite a large distance from small or medium sized towns. It is also one layer which helps build up a picture of the function of built-up areas in the EU urban hierarchy.
