(2010) 'How can ecologists help realise the potential of payments for carbon in tropical forest countries?' , Journal of Applied Ecology, 47: 1159-1165’ is now published.

Please email if you would like a copy but are unable to download it. The abstract is also available in Spanish.

September 2010: Carbon monitoring manual published (in Spanish)

Based on the data analysis workshops we held in 2009, we have published a manual ‘Manual para el monitoreo del ciclo de carbono en bosques Amazónicos’ detailing the key principles and methods behind the design of carbon inventories in tropical forests.

December 2009: Brief for Policymakers

Prior to COP15 in Copenhagen, a policy brief in English and Spanish was widely circulated, outlining a series of key points for the development of REDD in the Peruvian Amazon.

September 2009: Criteria and Indicators for REDD Projects (in Spanish)

A major output of the project 'Criteria and Indicators for REDD projects' (in Spanish) is now available. This publication provides a suite of principles, criteria and indicators that can be used to guide the development of REDD projects, and an introduction to the main concepts and literature related to these initiatives.

August 2009: Data Analysis Workshop 2

In collaboration with the Instituto de Investigationes de la Amazonia Peruana (IIAP), and the University of Oxford, UK, a workshop was held on the measurement and analysis of carbon fluxes in Amazonia at IIAP, Iquitos, Peru, during August 2009.

The course materials are available at http://www.iiap.org.pe/carbono2.html

June 2009: Project Workshop Report (in Spanish)

A 22 page report on the workshop entitled 'Strengthening research and human capacities to support carbon payment for ecosystem services projects'. The workshop included the presentation of the ESPA project advances, strengthened existing and created new strategic alliances, and had group discussions of key ecosystem service topics and potential future research.

May 2009: Data Analysis Workshop 1 (in Spanish)

A 13 page report on the workshop entitled 'Statistical analysis to support the design of carbon inventories' by Tim Baker (University of Leeds) and Euridice Honorio (Research Institute of the Peruvian Amazon-IIAP). The workshop covered basic concepts related to the carbon cycle, the methodologies and calculations of carbon stocks and fluxes, and recommendations for future inventories and research in Peru.

All workshop materials and presentations are available at http://www.iiap.org.pe/carbono.html

March 2009: Project Strategy
