Grids Java Library Web Page

Andy Turner

Introduction

This library of packages provides a geographical raster calculator for 2D square celled spatial data. It began to evolve in the year 2000 and has been used in a number of research projects. Version 1.0 beta 1 was released as open source in March 2005 under the GNU LESSER GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE Version 2.1 . The general idea is to be able to handle datasets with hundreds of thousands of row and columns by controlling the swapping of data to and from different parts of computer memory. On 2006-07-11 grids was initiated as an Open Source Geospatial Foundation project, but since then little progress has been made with this. It is understood that some incubation process needs to occur and that a larger user base is needed.

The software has been developed on Java 1.5 (J2SE 2 Platform Standard Edition 5.0) , but hopefully it should work on later editions .
