Research overview

My research focuses on the contemporary restructuring and retrofitting of urban regions, with a particular emphasis on the changing dynamics of race, class and segregation across space and place. I am trained as an urban planner, and my work attempts to fuse critical, historically-rooted and place-based geography with a planner’s eye for policy and the future. Most of my work to date has focused on the US in general and California in particular, with new research horizons in France, the UK and major regions in Asia and Latin America. I am a writer as much as a researcher.
