Project title: Gentrification in a traditional Korean housing area
Project overview
My research relates to debates on gentrification. I investigate how gentrification impacts on residents and local communities in the context of an area of traditional housing in central Seoul. My research focuses specifically on the interaction of political players, civil society groups and local households in valorising a historical neighbourhood under conditions of a market economy. It attempts to understand the reasons behind the identification and commodification of heritage in the built environment of South Korea’s capital and relates these issues more widely to similar processes in other cities in East Asia.
Aims/objectives
As above.
