Current projects

A reconnaissance level survey of wildland in Scotland using GIS

Collaborative work with The John Muir Trust, Scotland to inform internal policy development.

Mapping perceptions of wildness in the Cairngorm National Park

Research carried out for Cairngorm National Park Authority and Scottish Natural Heritage to inform decision making regarding wildland character in the national park.

Mapping landscape values and meanings in the Mission Mountains Wilderness Buffer Zone

Joint research with Aldo Leopold Wilderness Research Institute, Montana and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes funded by the USDA Forest Service to inform strategy and resource management in regard to wildfire and social/cultural values and meanings linked to landscape.

Future research

Planned research includes further work on wilderness/remote area mapping andwork on web-based SDSS.  I also plan to continue work on environmental impact/change in northeast Greenland with associates in Brunel University and GEUS, Copenhagen.
