Project title

Research on educational equality based on accessibility to community education facilities in China- A case study of Beijing

Project overview

The basic education an individual receives determines whether he or she can be a citizen who can meet the demands of modern society and enjoy international basic living standards. Education plays a key role in eradicating polarisation and difference, which is an important factor of social differentiation. Since implementing a policy of reform and opening-up, China has experienced rapid urbanisation. At the same time, however, the economic and social development of different regions in China is becoming increasingly uneven. Educational development in different regions varies greatly but this gap within regions itself is even more serious. Thus, my research is related to education inequality and spatial deprivation during urbanisation and find better measures to eliminate it.

The overall aim of my research is to study education inequality through spatial analysis, from the perspective of spatial deprivation analyses of education facilities.
