Field trips form an important part of the Geography courses at Leeds. They provide a unique opportunity to study
the subject in contrasting environments, away from the University, and to learn essential skills which help in
dissertation preparation and various other elements of the course.
First Year Field Trips
All single honours first year geography students take part in a weekend residential fieldwork in the first few weeks of term,
with an emphasis on team building and getting to know the staff. In addition, all first year students who are parented by the School of Geography undertake compulsory accredited fieldwork in the Leeds and Yorkshire area.
Second Year Field Trips
Second year field classes are optional for both BA and BSc students; human geographers can choose between Montpellier, Trieste or Helsinki and physical geographers can go to either a Mediterranean destination at Easter or to the Austrian Alps at the end of the summer term.
Third Year Field Trips
For final year students, we are developing an exciting programme of international field classes; current options include trips to Greece, Japan, or Mexico for BA Geography students and New Zealand for BSc Geography students.
