"I am really enjoying studying Human Geography at Leeds.  The course gives you an insight into all the different areas you can study within Geography and lets you narrow down to the subjects that you find most interesting.  I’m interested in the social aspects of my course, such as Citizenship and Belonging, and hope to continue studying towards a PhD at Leeds in the future, where I’ve made some great friends.

Currently I am working at Yorkshire Forward on a 12-month undergraduate placement, which has enabled me to use the skills I have learnt at University such as team working and time management, but also put the knowledge I have learnt into practice.  My work in Economic Inclusion allows me to use aspects of my degree, by researching statistics and writing business plans to decide where funding should be allocated to reach the most deprived areas of Yorkshire.

Working in the public sector really has opened my eyes to all the different agencies that work together to drive the economy and has widened my career options.  Studying Geography gives a good grounding to a wide variety of different job roles - it’s just a case of finding out what they all are.

It’s tough to get in, but its well worth it and puts you in good stead when applying for graduate placements.  I would like to apply for graduate placements next year, as they enable you to gain so much experience in such little time, with the possibility of securing a job when you finish".
