"When I first came to the university open day there was something about the friendly atmosphere that made me choose Leeds, I instantly knew this was where I wanted to study, and I could see myself being happy here.

I decided to study BA geography because I always enjoyed it at school. From studying geography as a degree subject, I now realise that you gain skills in a number of fields which can make you stand out to an employee. In my opinion geography students are all rounders, we have brilliant analytical skills useful for any job in life. We are able to look at a topic in a different perspective by examining the human and physical aspects affecting a certain issue. We also gain people skills, through fieldwork trips and group work. I feel my degree at Leeds has definitely benefitted me and made me more aware of what I have to offer the job market.

Aside from the academic side, the School of Geography introduced me to a scheme run by The Royal Geographical Society. I am a geography student ambassador and this involves visiting schools and giving talks and putting on activities for school children about the benefits of continuing with geography at GCSE/A Level/ Degree level. I put a tremendous amount of energy into doing this because I find it very rewarding and also a lot of fun."
