School of Geography

Meet Alex Segall, your Student Experience Ambassador.

Hi I'm Alex Segall and I'm a 4th year Physical Geography with International Year student.

My role as personal development ambassador is... to promote and help create opportunities for School of Geography (SoG) students and to ensure students love their time at Leeds and graduate with useful and practical experience.

I am looking forward to... working on improving your student experience, particularly for those who study abroad. I am also interested in helping Leeds Geography students build connections with the wider Leeds community.

After I graduate I would like to... do a Masters and then work abroad in Asia. My main memory of induction week was meeting my best friend, housemate and fellow Geographer at the orientation tea.

My no. 1 tip would be... to go to all the 'Give it a Go' sessions at LUU as they are often free and can help in choosing which societies to join. There are numerous ways students can get involved whether as Course Reps in the SoG, joining Leeds RAG and volunteering abroad or by being a member of GeogSoc.

I throughly recommend... taking a trip down to Terrace for a pasta/cup noodle free lunch, when it's student loan day.

The best thing about the School of Geography (SoG) is... the wide variety of opportunities available to students, many of which are exclusive.

The best decision I have made at University... was applying for School Rep. The application process and position itself helped me gain confidence and experience in a leadership position that meant I felt more comfortable applying for other positions.
