School of Geography

My role as School Rep is... to represent the views of all students in the School of Geography at different meetings within the School and the Union to help make your time studying Geography even better.

In this role, I am looking forward to... hopefully integrating all the students in the School a bit more, along the BA/BSc divide and across the years, and working with course reps and staff members to make the School even better than it already is.

My goals after I graduate... this is the dreaded question: I’m not actually too sure yet! I do know I’d like to do some more travelling at some point though.

Induction week... was all a bit of a blur really, because there were so many things happening with so many different new people, but I remember the Geog Soc Freshers BBQ , as it was a great chance to sit down and chat to other geographers, and start to make some really good  friends.  My number one tip for freshers/new students starting in September y not to feel too overwhelmed, and just remember that everyone is experiencing the same thing, so don’t be afraid to go up and talk to people, even if it seems like they already have best friends: they probably will have only known each other for a few days!

How to get involved... in the School of Geography, a really good way to get involved is to become a course rep, as it’s a chance to have a say in issues surrounding your course, and a way to get to know other staff and students. Also go to events that Geog Soc hold, as well as joining societies outside of the School.

The best place for lunch on campus is... The Terrace: the food is really tasty and affordable, and it’s always good fun, especially sitting outside when it’s warm.

The best thing about the School of Geography is... the fact that there are so many opportunities to do things beyond just learning in the classroom, whether that’s fieldtrips, year in industry, year abroad, or a research placement.

The best decision I have made so far at University is... doing a study abroad year, without a doubt.
