POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH TOPICS

You can apply to do a PhD with your own research proposal or you can apply to do any of the topics put forward by our academic/ research staff.  These topics and research areas are listed under the research cluster links below however please note that funding is not attached directly to projects unless specified. 

Human Geography Topics

Staff in these areas sometimes propose specific topics but more often invite research proposals in the areas listed below.  Please click on the research cluster names for more details.

Centre for Spatial Analysis and Policy
  • Population dynamics, migration, geodemographics, retailing, education and health with specific expertise in analysis and modelling methods including microsimulation, agent-based modelling, spatial interaction models, AI techniques, demographic estimation and projection, and applications of GIS.
Citizenship and Belonging
  • Social identities, migration and transnationalism, environmental citizenship, development geographies, geographies of nations and nationalism, geographies of prejudice, geographies of youth and disability geography.

Cities and Social Justice
  • Consumption cultures and subcultures, challenging neoliberal spaces, urban memory and landscape, territorial governance and urban restructuring, cultural policy and regeneration, sustainable urban futures.
