Ecology & Global Change – PhD projects

The Ecology and Global Change research cluster works in biomes across the world from tropical rain forests to Arctic tundra and aims to determine the nature of environmental change at a range of temporal and spatial scales.

We have considerable experience in guiding students successfully through a PhD and helping applicants develop proposals and seek funding. A list of potential PhD projects can be found below or you can submit your own research proposal as part of an application for research degree study.  We also offer some topics as Masters by Research projects.

Leeds/York NERC Doctoral Training Partnership 2017/18

Funding is available every year for UK/EU students through the Leeds York NERC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP). DTP studentships provide full fees, maintenance funding for 3.5 years (RC UK rate) and some additional  expenses for fieldwork, lab costs and conferences. Projects which are based in Geography and eligible for NERC DTP funding are listed below and the NERC DTP website has a full list of all projects available across the DTP.  The closing date for applications for this second round of applications is 16 June 2017.  Please click here for information on how to apply.

Projects without funding

Please note that although these projects are advertised on the NERC DTP website, they are not eligible for the current round of funding.  They give an indication of the kind of projects undertaken in the Ecology and Global Change cluster and can be applied for if you have funding in place.
