The Centre for Spatial Analysis and Policy supports wide-ranging research interests in quantitative geography. In particular research interests include population dynamics, migration, geodemographics, retailing, crime, education and health. We have specific expertise in analysis and modelling methods including microsimulation, agent-based modelling, spatial interaction models, AI techniques, demographic estimation and projection, and applications of GIS. A list of academic staff in the Centre for Spatial Analysis and Policy and their research interests can be found here

Applications to do postgraduate research in any of these areas are welcome.  You can submit your own research proposal or contact staff to discuss the projects below. Most projects do not have funding attached so you will need to already have secured funding or to apply separately for suitable funding/scholarships. Possible funding sources are listed here with most funding being advertised between November - April each year.

If you would like to apply for any of the projects below or with your own research proposal, please contact the relevant member(s) of academic staff and/or submit an application for postgraduate research.  Postgraduate research applications are accepted all year round however, if you are also applying for funding, please note the scholarship deadline and submit your PhD application  in advance to allow time for it to be processed.  The majority of our postgraduate researchers start their studies on 1 October but it is possible to start on the 1st of any month if your funding permits this.
