- An application for research degree study form (click here)
- Curriculum Vitae (CV/resumé) outlining your academic achievements and any relevant experience to date.
- Transcripts and certificates of all degrees obtained to date. If you have not yet graduated, please send details of marks obtained so far.
- Research Proposal (for students applying with their own projects). This should be no longer than 6 pages, plus references. It should include an introduction to the topic, the aims of the research and the specific research questions, full methodology, and referencing. This will enable potential supervisors to see if you have a good grasp of the literature and understand the major issues, and that your methodology is sound. A well-written proposal will demonstrate your competence, as well as helping us to make sure that we have staff with the expertise needed for the successful completion of your research.
- Supporting Statement (for students applying for one of our advertised PhD topics). This should outline in your own words the aims, objectives, and methodologies of the project you are applying for. You should describe the background to and significance of the project;why you are interested in the topic, and how your background and skills match the project's requirements.
- Academic references. To consider your application we require at least 2 strong academic references. These should be written by someone who is able to comment on your academic ability, for example your tutor, lecturer or Head of Department. Please contact your referees and ask them to complete our recommendation form and to return these directly to Jacqui Manton (RPG Adminstrator) by email or post.
- If English is not your first language, you will need to provide evidence that you meet the University's English Language requirements (eg, IELTS/TOEFL).
