Towards a New Urban Deal?
Workshops
A programme of six two and three day workshops will be held at rotating sites within the network. We will provide short updates on the progress of these meetings.
30th - 31st August – 2010 “London network workshop”
4 members of the network (Gonzalez, Rossi, Ribera-Fumaz and Oosterlynck) met to
discuss the start of the network and a paper to be presented at the 1st - 3rd September 2010, Annual Royal Geographical Society (RGS) conference in London under the title: The Varieties of Urban Capitalism and the Limits of Neo-Liberalism where we presented the network. We received 7 contributions from international colleagues. More details of the programme can be found here.
3rd - 4th February 2011 “Leeds network workshop”
4 members of the network (Gonzalez, Rossi, Ribera-Fumaz and Oosterlynck) met to discuss the theoretical background to our research and present initial thoughts on the case studies. We invited Professor Bob Jessop and Dr Amelie Kutter from the Sociology Department, University of Landscape to exchange ideas from their project funded by the ESRC “Great transformations”, which looks at crisis-management responses at the international and national level. We also met with two policy makers from Leeds city council to discuss impact of the crisis in Leeds.
27th June – 1st July 2011 “Cagliari network workshop”
4 members of the network (Gonzalez, Rossi, Ribera-Fumaz and Oosterlynck) met to discuss progress in the network. We based our discussions on recent fieldwork in Leeds and Cagliari and on the methodology of research. We also visited some real redevelopment projects in Cagliari that have been affected by the crisis.
