THE LONGITUDINAL STUDY (LS)

• The Office for National Statistics maintains, for England and Wales, a very rich data set, the Longitudinal Study, which links a sample of individuals from the 1971 Census through the 1981 to the 1991 Census and also records selected vital events, that are connected to the sample individuals.

• LS statistics are only available via The Centre for Longitudinal Study Information and User Support at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Users must submit project proposals for approval by a joint ONS/ESRC Committee as part of the registration process.
