THE LONGITUDINAL STUDY (LS)
-
The Office for National Statistics maintains, for England and Wales, a
very rich data set, the Longitudinal Study, which links a sample of individuals
from the 1971 Census through the 1981 to the 1991 Census and also records
selected vital events, that are connected to the sample individuals.

See for an example of use the chapter by Tony Fielding (Sussex) on "Migration
and social change" in Migration Patterns and Processes, Vol.2 (Belhaven,
London, 1992), which describes the links between social and geographical
mobility.
