Summary

At one time catchments were pristine and unused. Over the last 50 years an understandable growth in public demand for access has occurred with consequent problems for the management of overall waters. These problems are similar throughout much of the UK.

This project has sought to identify the standing of the body of public knowledge and scientific knowledge that can be used to model likely water quality given catchment conditions.
