Deep soil coring at Duke Forest, North Carolina: Soil sampling often takes real team effort! We were interested in the effects of elevated atmospheric CO2 on processes occurring deep in the soil profile, particularly cation exchange and mineral weathering. But to minimize disturbance to this long-term experiment in mature forest, we had very little space in which to work
