PROJECTS & WORK IN PROGRESS
Current Projects
SOLUTIONS is a major EPSRC funded project (£2.75M) that seeks to produce generic guidance for the planning of socially inclusive, economically efficient and environmentally sustainable cities, with a particular focus on peri-urban areas that experience high growth pressure. A series of in-depth, integrated case studies is underway in four cities representing different urban characteristics and scales. The interaction between city and neighbourhood levels is addressed, with close attention to transport and urban design issues. Alternative land use dispositions and transport configurations are combined to form distinct archetypes of development at both scales. Alternatives are analysed through a combination of quantitative and qualitative procedures to estimate, through time, the likely outcome in terms of people's opportunities and behaviour, and subsequently, the sustainability implications (addressing economic efficiency, social equity implications, and environmental sustainability).
