This page is for information about GEOG5870M in 2012 to 2013.
It is Andy Turner's Web Page about this which he developed to help document and organise his role as a guest tutor in this academic year.
In addition to this page Andy has a Google Docs Document which was more used for collaboration and collecting information:

- Did you like the schedule for the afternoon? Did it fit well within the module? Would you recommend any changes to the schedule?
- It was very educating and it did fit well within the module
- Yup Fitted well
- Yes, the scheduling fit well with the module. I would recommend making the last part of the module, the "free time for exploring" to be a bit shorter in length. This may better optimize the output from the students.
- The second part of the session was more interesting then the first. Second part could be possibly more structured.
- Yes, it was interesting beinng able to browse various websites.
- Thought the schedule was perfect.
- Worked well, however, there maybe could have been an exercise or two actually using the different sites to use the data within them, e.g. take data from different sources, bringing them together to produce our own maps.
- Yes - overall the schedule gave a good mix of overview, detailed examples and hands on opportunities. It would perhaps be nice to download and utilise some OpenStreetMap data in our own web based GIS applications.
- Was the presentation on Web Based Fundamentals well delivered? Was it too detailed? Did you learn about new things of interest in that presentation?
- It was very detailed and every information is useful and i also leaned new things in the presentation
- Very well delivered. Sometimes a bit too detailed but very informative. Wouldn't change the style.
- The slides could be slightly 'jazzed up'. Repeating each point rather then running quickly through. It was difficult to obsorb all the data. Maybe have a longer break to explore links?
- Yes, the video links were very interesting!
- Very interesting content
- Not detailed enough.
- The pitch was aimed at the right level, providing a good overview and plenty of links for further exploration.
- Did you enjoy learning about OpenStreetMap? Had you heard of open data before today?
- Yes i did. I had no idea of Openstreetmap before today
- Not heard of it. But like it!!
- OpenStreetMap is a must know about piece of software. Thank you for the enlightenment.
- Yes I did. No I hadn't heard of it.
- Had not heard of it before today
- Hadn't heard of it before today, really enjoyed learning about it.
- i did enjoy it, but had never heard of it before.
- I had heard of open data before the presentation, and about OpenStreetMap but did not realise how widely it was being utilised and the number of applications that use the data/size of the community that contributes. It was very interesting to see how the data is being used.
- Did you enjoy the unstructured nature of the collaborative learning exercise? Would you rather have been put to task with another crib sheeted practical exercise?
- It was ok, but more improved slides would be better
- A bit too unstructured, a little more direction would have been good.
- I very much enjoyed the unstructured collaborative learning experience. Keep it up! It helps engage collective thought processes from all and not just the teacher lecturing at you.
- It was fun but could've been shorter and slightly more structured.
- I did enjoy, after two days of solid practical exercises it was a welcome relief to have an open session
- much preferred being left to look at the websites at our own leisure
- would rather have had an task to do.
- I enjoyed exploring the links and sharing ideas with others in the group. A short specific task may have helped to focus the research but in a short amount of time I was able to learn a lot about the utility of open data.
- Is there any other feedback you would like to share?
- Overall a very nice presentation. Extremely informative and well structured. Job well done!
- No.
- good session overall
- No - very interesting and informative session.
