Soil primary parent material
The image displays a classification of primary soil parent material. There
are approximately 100 different classes of rock type present which can
be broadly grouped into the 9 classes displayed above. This input was simply

Soils are very closely related to the rocks on which they lie, parent material
weathers to supply minerals and inorganic nutrients to help fertilise the
soil, and the permeability of the rocks will effect the movement of water
in the soil.
Soil type and parent material are likely to be closely related.
