      • Reviewed the review form emailed by Mark on 2007-07-06 and returned by email:
        • Filled in Reviwee part of the form at Section 4. It awaits Mark's signature there.
        • Filled out the box on the front page using "DATE OF APPOINTMENT TO CURRENT ROLE: 2006-01-01" as in the paper documentation Louise provided.
    • 2007-07-06 Received Form from Mark
      • Now I need to find time to review and feedback...
    • 2007-06-18 Review Meeting
      • Reviewer Mark Birkin.
      • I did not feel this was a great review as I did not get any positive feedback from Mark.
        • I feel like I weathered the storm and eagerly await the form from Mark...
      • This was in part a review, part an exercise on intelligence gathering by Mark who seemed keen to know about my Research Funding Plans and in particular liaisons with regard the NCeSS Node Funding Call.
      • It was in the main an exercise in making it clear who the boss was and confirming the relative importance of those with PhD degrees and those with only Masters training and research experience.
      • The only positive part of this review was the feedback from fellow researchers and my unofficial mentor Steve Carver.
      • The most important feedback that I wanted to discuss in the review meeting was from Andy Evans my PhD supervisor who suggested that I was doing too much non-PhD activity in order to graduate. He outlined three options, two of which involved working towards a PhD:
        • Switch to get a PhD by publication by writing up more of the research I have done in peer reviewed journals.
        • Make more time for my current mode of study.
          • This was the option Mark favoured (or rather he said my carear in academia depended on it).
        • The most important outcome from the meeting was that Mark recognised that my career path is one of becoming an independent researcher.
          • I think that means progression to Research Grade 8 from Research Grade 7, but I'm not 100% sure of that.
