Annual Report for the topic area: Games and Simulation: Applications for Entertainment, Education, and Modeling. 1. Can you and your team maintain your topic area and update your pages on a regular basis (minimally every 1-2 months) in 2007? Please let me know if you or any of your team members can't make this commitment. If necessary, please also suggest names (including email addresses) of possible replacements or additional participants. Yes, we can maintain the topic area. We will expand the topic are on short notice, and keep it up to date. 2. Do you feel that your topic area is still relevant and that its name is accurate? Is it too specific or too broad? The topic area is still relevant and its name accurate. Our intention is to be a portal for the design and application of digital games and simulation. As we go along we will plan to set up sub topics that focus on different aspects of games and simulation. The Games and Simulation topic overlaps with other topic areas and we plan to make links in our pages. 3. What are your goals and vision for your topic area in 2007? Our goal for 2007 is to become a (well) known resources for developers and professionals in game and simulation design and application. The application are to focus on entertainment, education and modeling. In early March there will be a meeting of the editors and a special interest group. At this meeting we plan to encourage the special interest group to develop sub topics in game technology. We also want to make steps towards the establishment of a peer reviewed IEEE Games and Simulation publication. We hope to encourage the growth of a community of designers, developers and appliers of games and simulation technology. 4. Have you submitted a From the Editor column? If not, please sign up to contribute one in 2007. These columns are fairly short and informal, and you're free to enlist coauthors or solicit a column from peers in the field. (Contact me for more details.) We have not yet submitted a From the Editor column, but are working on a first submission. At our meeting in March we hope to enlist coauthors. 5. Do you have any other comments? Kind regards, Swen Stoop and Andy Turner
