Masters Programmes: Key Skills in Computing

School of Geography, University of Leeds

This section will briefly discuss emails.

It will cover:

Your email, and how to read it

As a student with us, you get your own email address which we will use to communicate with you. The address for this is "yourLoginName@leeds.ac.uk". You can read your email via the Portal. Instructions on how to use the Portal and how to read your email with it can be found on the University's IT Induction tutorial system.

Contacting staff

You can find the email address of staff on their webpages. Staff will try and get back to you within 24 hours during weekdays, if they are in email contact. Reception can tell you whether staff are away. If there is an emergency or something very urgent, your Programme Manager should be able to help.

Mail from us

You could get emails from us from four sources: directly from staff; from the Portal system; from the VLE as an email (usually associated with a module); or from the VLE as an announcement. To be honest, you'd have to be fairly eagle-eyed to spot the difference.

Facebook

There are plenty of informal Leeds Geography Masters groups and pages on Facebook; I'm sure you don't need our encouragement to find them. Towards the end of the course, however, you might like to join the Geography Alumni group; not least because people occasionally post jobs on there and it would be nice to stay in contact with you all. Some staff also like to keep in contact with students after they've left via Facebook, so feel free to drop us a line individually when you've finished our teaching/doing dissertations if you like.
